Hands on S.T.E.M.

AFRL New Mexico will have several interactive hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (S.T.E.M.) exhibits in the S.T.E.M. & Space Pavilion at the 2019 Kirtland Air and Space Fiesta. These exhibits will provide opportunities for visitors to explore basic S.T.E.M. concepts behind some of the research that AFRL is conducting at Kirtland AFB.

At the Making Light Work exhibit visitors explore properties of laser light and the challenges of using light to do work. You can watch light cut through wood, find solutions to some laser maze challenges, and see if you can get a high score on the laser target spinning wheel game at this exhibit

Visitors try their hand at getting a satellite into orbit using the Simple Rockets app, see a GPS satellite with augmented realty, and learn the basics of how the global positioning system (GPS) works through a trilateration activity at the GPS exhibit.

Finally, the Satellite Thermal Management exhibit provides explorations with heat transfer and the challenges of managing heat transfer on a satellite. Visitors view their heat signature on an infrared camera and feel how quickly heat pipes transfer thermal energy.
